For German, Swiss, or Austrian couples, organizing a wedding in the Italian region of Tuscany is a straightforward process regarding legal matters. You only need a few essential documents, which should be arranged in advance.

A wedding in Italy requires an international birth certificate in a multilingual format, an ID card or passport, and an international multilingual certificate of no impediment, which proves that you are both unmarried. In the case of a previous divorce, a certificate confirming the legal divorce is required. If one of you is widowed, the death certificate of the deceased spouse is needed.

For a civil wedding in Italy, a personal appointment takes place 1 to 2 days before the actual ceremony. During this important meeting, both of you sign a protocol stating that there are no family or other obstacles to your love. Present are you as the couple, the official, and, if necessary, a translator. This can be your wedding planner. The original documents, which have already been submitted in advance by your wedding planner, are cross-checked with the documents you bring to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
