1. Focus on quality and experience in wedding photography

Flowers wilt, the food is eaten, and the music fades as soon as the celebration is over. However, the wedding lives on in your photos.

Choosing a professional photographer is therefore one of the most important decisions in wedding planning. It's not just about getting beautiful pictures, but about authentically capturing your story, your emotions, and the atmosphere of your wedding day.

When selecting, don't focus solely on individual favorite images. Look at a complete wedding report and pay attention to whether the quality remains consistent throughout the day – from preparations to the ceremony to the celebration.

Equally important are the personal style, experience with destination weddings, and the ability to blend harmoniously into the flow. A good wedding photographer works attentively and professionally without disturbing the natural moments.

For comprehensive coverage, a photographic coverage of about 10 to 12 hours is usually recommended – from the morning preparations to the party. This way, not only the ceremony and couple photos are captured, but also all the little moments that you might not even notice on that day.

The photos preserve the hugs of your parents, the laughter of your friends, the tears during the ceremony, and the atmosphere of your location. They are the tangible memories with which you can relive your wedding day many years later.

My tip: When selecting, pay attention to the overall photographic style, a complete gallery, the photographer's experience, and the personal connection between you. Your wedding photos should not only look beautiful but also feel like you.

2. Inviting too many guests

A long guest list can make the wedding day feel like a series of brief greetings.

First, write down all the people you would like to have there independently. Then compare your lists and reduce them together – honestly and without guilt.

Ask yourselves:

·       Who truly belongs in our lives?

·       With whom do we want to share this special moment?

·       Who would we actually miss on this day?

·       Are we inviting someone out of genuine connection or just out of obligation?

For a more intimate wedding, a guest count of around 60 to 80 people allows you to spend quality time with most guests. With more than 80 people, especially at a one-day wedding, it becomes increasingly difficult to give everyone the attention they deserve.

For a destination wedding, you should also consider the travel, costs, and time commitment for your guests. A well-thought-out guest list does not necessarily mean inviting only a few people. It means inviting the right people.

3. Forgetting to eat

Many brides hardly eat on their wedding day because they are overwhelmed by nerves and emotions. In the end, they are exhausted and have little energy.

This is particularly unfortunate if you chose to have a wedding in Italy because you want to enjoy the Italian cuisine. You selected the menu, tasted dishes, and planned every detail carefully. Therefore, you should also take the time to really try the food.

Ask your wedding planner to consciously schedule some minutes for you to eat. You can already have something during the aperitif, enjoy at least part of the dinner, and of course, try the wedding cake.

A sufficient meal also helps you maintain enough energy during a 10 to 12-hour wedding day. Your wedding is not a test that you must pass on an empty stomach. It is an experience that you should enjoy with all your senses.

4. Planning every minute of the day

A well-organized schedule is important. However, planning every minute can prevent you from truly enjoying the day.

Of course, your wedding needs a timeline. At the same time, there should be enough room for spontaneous conversations, unexpected hugs, and special moments. A longer conversation with your father, a spontaneous walk with your friends, or an unplanned moment for a photo can become some of the most beautiful memories of the day.

Not everything needs to be foreseen. Not everything needs to happen exactly on time.

A wedding planner helps you find the right balance. They coordinate the processes, manage the service providers, and take care of unexpected situations. This way, you have the freedom to be truly present and experience the day.

Good planning should not control every second. It should create the conditions for you to feel relaxed and secure.

5. Choosing a beautiful but uncomfortable dress or uncomfortable shoes

Your wedding dress should not only look beautiful but also fit the day ahead of you.

You will wear it for many hours, move around, sit, hug your guests, dance, climb stairs, and probably also need to go to the bathroom at some point – ideally without the help of a whole team.

The same goes for the shoes. Think carefully about where your wedding takes place:

·       Stiletto heels are not very practical on gravel.

·       On an English lawn, they can sink in.

·       For many stairs, sturdy shoes are sensible.

·       For a beach ceremony, you need suitable footwear.

For a wedding in Tuscany, the location plays a particularly important role. An elegant villa, a historic estate, a garden with grass, or a courtyard with gravel place very different demands on your shoes and dress.

The dress should also be coordinated with the location and the schedule. If you want to dance, you should be able to move well in it. With a long train, it is important to know how to handle it during meals and the party. If the dress is very elaborately cut, sitting and going to the bathroom should also be considered in advance.

Beauty and comfort do not exclude each other. Consider planning a second pair of shoes, a way to secure the train, or a second dress for the party.

6. Not planning an extra night

At a destination wedding, a common mistake is not planning an extra overnight stay.

After a long day that often starts early in the morning, many hours on your feet, and a celebration that may not end until three in the morning, an early check-out can be particularly stressful.

You have to pack your bags, gather all the things you brought for the wedding, and make sure not to forget anything in the room. Your guests also have to take care of check-out. Therefore, it is not a given that you can say goodbye to everyone in peace.

Some locations kindly allow you to leave the rooms by 11 a.m. However, this does not automatically mean that the morning is relaxed. After a long party night, time passes very quickly.

If you stay another night, you can instead:

·       wake up without time pressure;

·       organize a relaxed brunch;

·       spend some hours by the pool;

·       say goodbye to family and friends in peace;

·       plan a casual dinner or keep the evening completely free.

The day after can be a beautiful extension of your wedding: no other big event, just a relaxed moment with your loved ones.

My tip: Especially for a wedding in Tuscany, it is worth extending your stay. Many couples use the day after for a relaxed brunch, an afternoon by the pool, or a shared dinner.

7. Having too many games and surprises planned

It is nice when your witnesses and friends want to prepare something special for you. Games, small inserts, and surprises can be thoughtful and entertaining. However, they should not dictate the entire course of your wedding.

Your wedding is not a birthday party or an entertainment show for someone else.

It is your day.

You should be able to enjoy the moments you have wished for: the dinner, the speeches, the music, the party, and the time with your guests.

Too many games can constantly interrupt the meal and disrupt the rhythm of the celebration. Additionally, not every couple feels comfortable being the center of spontaneous actions. Some surprises can therefore be more uncomfortable than pleasant.

Talk early with your witnesses and openly express what brings you joy and what you would prefer to avoid. You can also ask your wedding planners to coordinate the planned surprises and integrate them appropriately into the schedule.

One or two well-thought-out surprises can be beautiful. The important thing is that they leave enough space for all the moments you have planned for your wedding.

8. Not having taken enough photos with the most important people

Couple photos are important and you will probably get many of them. However, pictures with your parents, grandparents, siblings, witnesses, and closest friends often belong to the shots that you will particularly enjoy looking at later.

Therefore, plan some group photos with the most important people together with your photographer. It doesn't have to be a long photo session with all the guests. A short, well-prepared list is usually sufficient. Think, for example, of:

you with both parents;

you with your grandparents;

you with siblings;

you with the witnesses;

you with your closest friends;

a photo with the entire family;

a photo with your friend group.

Without such planning, it can easily happen that you find out after the wedding that an important person is not visible in any joint photo. Spontaneous shots are wonderful – but some memories should be consciously organized.

9. Having worried about every little detail

No one will remember whether the napkin knots were placed exactly in the middle or a little higher up.

No one will notice that the pink of the table runner didn't exactly match the shade you had in mind. And no one will later know whether there were more carnations than daisies in your bridal bouquet.

Of course, you know every detail of your concept and how much work went into it. However, your guests will primarily remember how they felt: the warm atmosphere, the loving reception, your joy, and the time spent together.

This doesn't mean that details are unimportant.

It just means that your wedding shouldn't become a constant check. If something isn't quite perfect, let it go. Many seemingly big mishaps will later turn into little stories that you can laugh about together.

10. Not delegating consistently

One of the most common challenges in wedding planning is wanting to take on all organizational tasks yourself even after hiring a wedding planner.

That is exactly the reason why you seek professional support: so that an experienced wedding planner can take over the topics for which she is trained and that she deals with daily.
